The Problem: The main challenge was to take individual system backup, as it was going to involve a huge amount of cost to implement the backup application at each and individual desktop. Also, they wanted to secure user data and mails (PST), reduce data loss risk, provide access (Read-only) to subordinate's business data, in case of his absence, and provide fast data recovery, in case of disaster.
The Solution: They created a centralized file server. They also created a Home Directory on top of it where users store their important data. Next they created secure common folders with department level access and one folder for organizational level access, where users could store data which they want to share between their department or throughout the organization. Each folder was given access as needed i.e. Read Only or Read/Write. They took central backup of this file server on LTO tapes. They also implemented PFBackup utility from Microsoft, which helped to store personal Outlook folders at a centralized file server and take the backup of PST files.
The Result: As a result of this deployment, the company saves approx. 60 to 70% time in backing up 500 GB data.
