Canon launches new printer

Canon has launched BJC-5100 printer for
A3-size printing. The printer has printing speeds of 10-ppm for monochrome
and 4-ppm for color printing, and prints at a resolution of 140x720 dpi.
The BJC-5100 has a dual-cartridge system and allows bi-directional
printing. The printer uses Canon’s PhotoRealism technology. Price: Rs

Iomega launches 250 MB
drives and disks

Iomega has launched the Zip 250 MB drive
and disks. The latest zip-drive is two-and-a-half times larger in capacity
than the original 100 MB zip-drive. Zip-250 drives can also read and write
to 100 MB zip disks. The Zip-250 drive includes: one Zip 250 MB disk,
IomegaWare software, and Norton Zip Rescue software. Recordit software is
also included for recording and playing voice and music on the computer

Technocom launches new
modems

Delhi-based Technocom has launched its new
high-speed data communication modems, with in-built speakers and

New AIR BUS motherboard

Jorjy International has launched PT 810DT,
a new AIR BUS interface-based twin processor AT form motherboard. The
mainboard has an Intel 810 chipset, 100-MHz bus speed, three DIMM sockets
that can store up to 512 MB RAM, an Award BIOS, four PCI slots, and two

UPS range

Digital Data Systems has announced a Power
Hub UPS–a 500 VA line-interactive model with a wide input voltage range

ActiveShield

McAfee launched ActiveShield, an anti-virus
protection technology. The technology offers real-time virus scanning.
ActiveShield continuously searches the Internet for virus updates and
warns you. It checks all file inputs/outputs, downloads, programs, e-mail,
etc, for viruses. The facility is available online to members only. Price:

Symantec launches TalkWorks
PRO 3

Symantec has launched TalkWorks PRO version
3, a voice and fax messaging solution. The software works with a
compatible voice/fax modem. It allows users to create multiple mailboxes,
workgroup voicemail for up to 15 users, and a caller ID-based Screen Pop,
that pulls up caller information from the user’s phone book. Price: Rs

Novell launches
directory-enabled NT firewall

Novell has launched a directory-enabled
firewall for NT. FireWall has Internet security features and network
bandwidth management tools to provide priority to mission-critical

Deltra Software of Belgaum has announced a
new software for printing digital photographs. The software lets you print

HCL launches Dragon
Naturally Speaking 4

HCL and Dragon have launched version 4 of
Dragon Naturally Speaking–a voice recognition software. This will enable
you to browse the Net by voice. You can activate IE through voice
commands, jump to links, surf book-marked sites, use e-mail, chat, etc. It
has a training time of about three-to-five minutes to learn your voice.
Customized according to Indian accent, the software has a vocabulary of
230,000 words and allows you to dictate up to 160 words per minute. Price:

Launches new Deskjet
printer

HP has launched DJ
970 Cxi, a new photo-quality Deskjet printer. The printer has a resolution
of 2400x1200 dpi and HP’s enhanced Photo REt color-layering technology.
The printer has speeds of 12-ppm for black and 10-ppm for color printing.
Its advanced features include duplex attachment to provide automatic
two-sided printing, and an ink indicator for showing low-ink levels.

Launches new scanners

The company has also
launched three new flatbed color scanners–ScanJet 3300C for the SOHO
market, and ScanJet 6300C and 6350C professional series scanners. HP will

650 MHz Athlon

AMD has
launched the Athlon processor with a speed of 650 MHz. The processor has a
bus speed of 200 MHz, with a 128 kB L1 cache, a programmable backside L2
cache, and the new 3DNow! technology with 24-new instructions. The latter
is also found in the 600-MHz variant.

New notebook processors

AMD has also
launched two new processors–K6-2-P/475, K6-3-P/450–for notebooks. The
two processors support 100-MHz front-side bus and 3DNow! technology. The
K6-3-P has a TriLevel cache design, with a 64 kB L1 cache, an internal 256
kB L2 cache, and external L3 cache of up to 1 MB.
