New Update

McAfee announced the release of a McAfee survey, conducted by - Synovate, which reveals some alarming facts about Internet usage trends among Indian urban children and the risks they are prone to in the online world. Most urban parents, according to the survey, monitor and control the time spent by their children very strictly.  Yet, almost one third of the respondents are not aware of the activities their kids are involved in online.  81% of the respondents say they have installed an anti-virus solution on their PCs/laptops; however 40% of parents have not been updating it regularly.  Over 50% of parents either don't have or are not aware of 'parental control' applications that can prevent their kids from accessing inappropriate sites.  This clearly shows that while most parents think they are undertaking adequate security measures to protect their children online, they are not aware of specialized features that help mitigate the risks. The results of the study reaffirm there is a lack of consumer understanding about how children can be protected from the dangers of cybercrime.

To help address parents' concerns regarding online safety, McAfee announced a new awareness building initiative called 'Cyber Security Mum'. Through this effort, McAfee aims to connect with concerned parents and educate them on precautions and steps they should take in order to protect their loved ones in cyberspace.  Lending her genuine and involved voice to the campaign is Anindita Mishra, a Pune-based writer, teacher and mother of two who shares the same concerns about children and their growing exposure to online threats as many other parents.

The Cybermum initiative is launching in India after its success in the US and Australia where millions of kids, teens and parents have been educated by McAfee.
