Microsoft has announced the availability of Windows 8.1, Windows 8.1 Pro and Windows Server 2012 R2 RTM builds to the developer and IT professional communities via MSDN and TechNet subscriptions from 9th September, 2013. Additionally, Microsoft announced that Visual Studio 2013 Release Candidate is available for public download.

Highlights from the announcement include:

The release of Windows 8.1, Windows 8.1 Pro and Windows Server 2012 R2 RTM, along with Visual Studio 2013 Release Candidate will serve the primary purpose of testing so that developers and IT Pros can ready their apps and infrastructure for the next release of Windows and Windows Server.

This initiate is based on the valuable feedback received from the developer and IT professional community as they play a critical role in building experiences for Windows that make lives more productive and fun.

Microsoft provides support to developers via the Dev Center for Windows 8.1 Store App development and testing, and additional assistance via standard commercial support channels.
