Apple launched its inaugural iPad tablet in 2010, and it did not take long before I joined the millions of consumers worldwide to acquire one. The initial decision to purchase a tablet was largely driven by personal and entertainment reasons. However, within a short span of time, I also learned about the multiple benefits that the tablet offered in the professional arena.

One of the drivers shifting my use of the tablet to business resided around the seamless integration it provided between my iPhone and business email accounts as well as contacts. In addition, the multitude of Apps such as Currency Converters, Stocks, Weather and Flight Trackers further escalated my use of my tablet and soon I was using it for business travel. The tablet offers enormous portability to business people travelling. Due to the fact that the tablet is light weight, agile and has a larger screen than my mobile which offers me the flexibility of carrying work on a flight, and using travel time to catch up on emails, analyse data or prepare a presentation.

I am confident using my tablet on business travel as TomTom India places utmost importance to protecting data with very stringent security firewalls. We have created a highly secured and multi-layered networking infrastructure environment with proven technologies that have been incorporated from the United States and Europe. In addition to firewalls, we have also implemented end-to-end encryption, spam controller, proxy-servers, end to end antivirus systems and VPN features for remote access. From an Indian context we test all securities on a quarterly basis.

That said, it remains as an entertainment and information source after my travel and workday is over. As I hail from France, I regularly read the popular “Le Monde” daily which helps me keep abreast with the developments of my native country.

A tablet also provides me with greater connection to my family using either FaceTime or Skype I can see my family each day that I am away on business travel. Remarkably as I write this article, we are contemplating acquiring a fourth so that we will each have our own tablet as the entertainment and educational experiences it offers my entire family are so positive.

As I find multiple benefits of owning a tablet from a professional and personal standpoint, I would definitely encourage other corporate leaders in India to acquire one or more. The tablet is an extremely portable and multi-functional device that equally performs in the work and leisure environment. I find that my response time to work emails or analysing data has been faster now that I carry my work in any environment.
