D-Link continues to enjoy the winner’s position for the third consecutive year, while Dax and Motorola are at second and third positions respectively for the second consecutive year. D-Link is leading by a wider margin compared to last year, which could mean that its popularity has increased. Most people in our survey who intended to buy a modem kept good quality as the most important factor followed by brand popularity. Most opted for D-Link because they perceived it to be a well-known brand and low-priced. It drew maximum support from the West, perhaps because that’s where the company is based. Dax needs to be much more aggressive in the North, East and Western markets if it wants to give any competition to D-Link.
Motorola received lukewarm response from the West and South. US Robotics, which was king in 1998-99, has made a comeback, albeit at number four position. GVC remains at number five position like last year.
