Every year, many new products are launched amidst much pomp and show, but most of them are forgotten after a while. Only a few are really remembered for a long time. This was the reason why we introduced this category last year, to see which products have a lasting impact on people.

The winner this year, like last year, is again from Microsoft–Windows Server 2003. Last year, it was Windows XP. What makes it even more special is that it was remembered even though its launch was not as dramatic as its older cousin, Windows 2000 Server. The new server promises many improvements over Windows 2000 server, better performance, and many new features that will make it easier to deploy in an organization of any size.

The next most remembered product we got was the tablet PC. Even though it was officially launched sometime in November last year, it was only later this year that we actually saw the products being rolled out in India. This is again commendable considering that it was slow to appear in the Indian market. The product has finally made the marriage between the pen and the computer a successful one. You can use the tablet PC like a regular notepad to write notes, which automatically get converted to editable text. The accuracy level is also pretty high.

The third most remembered product has been RedHat Linux 9. As Linux has been making inroads into the enterprise segment for some time now, and RedHat has been one of the most active players, no wonder it has been remembered. The latest launch has some exciting new features to offer, which include a new kernel, new version of the GUI, and updated applications all across.

Interestingly, while last year we saw a variety in the top four products, this year, two of the top three are Operating Systems. Hopefully, since the market has begun to look up, we should see more variety next year.
