MSI has launched MSI870 Fuzion motherboard based on AMD 870 chipset and Fuzion technology. It supports different processors like Phenom II X2, X3, X4, X6, Sempron, Athlon II X2, X3, X4. With SATA 6 Gbps and USB 3 support, core unlocking and overclocking capabilities have been fully extended. Its multi GPU computing and Lucid LT22102 chipset allows you to use graphic cards from different vendors at the same time. The motherboard scored impressive 17844 in 3DMarks 06, which means a great graphics performance. The 3D vantage score, 12099, was also impressive, while the PC Mark vantage score was 6209.

Test Bed: AMD Phenom II X4 965 processor, 4 GB RAM, AMD Radeon HD 6800 series graphic card, 80 GB HDD and Windows 7 Ultimate.

If we compare MSI870 Fuzion 3DMarks 06 score with Asus Crosshair IV Formula Motherboard (reviewed in August 2010) which is 14623, then MSI is a clear winner.

MSI motherboard also supports unbuffered DDR3 and SDRAM technology with 1333 MHz and 1066 MHz and the maximum memory supported is 16 GB. The different slots present are: 2 PCI Express 2.0 slots with x16 operation, 3 PCI Express x1 slots, 1 PCI slot, which support 3.3V/ 5V PCI bus interface.

Bottomline: With its really good performance, USB 3.0 support and support for different graphics card vendor, this motherboard is a decent choice.
