New Update

Microsoft products have been winning here since 1997. It was Windows NT all the way till last year, when Windows 2000 replaced it. This year Windows NT reclaims the top spot. That is surprising, given that Windows 2000 is the newer version, and has been around for long. NetWare improves its position slightly, from a UPI of 14 last year to 20 this time. It remains to be seen whether the introduction of NetWare 6 later this year will improve its position next year.

In current usage also, Windows NT is ahead of the rest. The fortunes of Linux seem to be on the wane. After reaching an all time high second position in 1999, Linux was placed third last year, and this year, failed to meet the cut off requirements for being included in the analysis.
