New Update

Competition in the network switches market is growing, as the number of players has increased. Gigabit Ethernet switches are widely available, and switches are becoming more feature rich. A highlight of many switches is port trunking, whereby multiple ports are combined to form one high bandwidth connection. This helps create high-speed network backbones.

Three players entered the Users’ choice club this year. Cisco is at the top spot followed by D-Link and 3Com. Cisco is popular among corporates and software companies, while D-Link is popular among SMEs, which is not surprising. Most people who intend to buy network switches rate quality as the prime criterion. One area where Cisco needs attention is in providing better service, because it received the lowest number of responses there. D-Link was chosen because of its service and brand popularity. People voted for 3Com because of good quality and low price.
