Think back to the past—the past in console years, at least. When the Nintendo Switch was only a distant dream for players and had not yet materialized. When it did ultimately release, fewer people anticipated that it would eventually sell more than 114 million copies. But before the Switch became a recognized brand in 2016, it went under the codename "NX."

Has Nintendo used codenames?

Nintendo has used the codenames "Dolphin" for the GameCube, "Revolution" for the Wii (which proved to be accurate for that machine), and "Project Cafe" for the Wii U. Codenames are widespread among console manufacturers. Due to a piece by Eurogamer, we know what Nintendo internally utilised for the NX logo.

What does the animated logo look like?

The animated logo, leaked online, features a blue backdrop with white lettering that reads "NX" inside a white circle with a little dot inside. While the NX/Switch was still under development and known internally by its codename, the logo was utilised as the boot-up animation. The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe prototype from 2016, when the Wii U game was being updated for the NX/Switch, included the codename logo.

How long will the movie remain online?

There is also a video available showing the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe prototype. The prototype, a port, appears to be very polished, although several elements of its construction still need to be developed and need some graphics and content. The prototype construction, completed on 18 October 2006, may be seen operating on "actual hardware" on YouTube, according to the description. Who knows how long the movie will remain online, given Nintendo's penchant for copyright disputes.

Conclusion

Who knows why Nintendo picked the codename "NX"; the corporation has never disclosed its naming guidelines, but we can now see what the codename's internal emblem looks like. It should be recorded in history.
