Norton 360 version 5.0 All-in-one security is the latest security offering from Symantec that provides all round protection and back-up. It is not just an anti-virus to protect your PC from viruses, worms, trojans but also an Internet Security tool which provides online identity protection by preventing malware from being secretly downloaded on to your computer that can send personal details specially banking details to cyber criminals. It also provides features like back-up and PC tune-up capabilities, anti-spam, anti-spyware, email scanning, protection against bots, etc. Apart from the above features, it incorporates Norton Insight, which assures user security by identifying trusted files that need be scanned and hence, helps in improving computer performance. Another new feature is the Social Media Scanner. By using this you can scan your Facebook Wall to identify malicious links in post feed and also filter out the infected websites you visit. We installed this application over a Windows 7 (32-bit) PC with 1 GB RAM and 40 GB hard disk. The installation is very simple and straight forward. Once the installation was done, the program needs to perform an initial Live update. To test its effectiveness, we loaded viruses and spyware onto the system and then started the Norton Scan. It took 2 hrs and 47 mins to scan the whole system and the application was able to fix 99% of the risks. As compared to this, 96% risks were detected and cleaned by the close competitor, Vipre Anti-virus (reviewed in Mar 2011). However, post installation of Norton you might be irritated by the sluggish start-up response of your system.
