OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said that ChatGPT, an AI chatbot, has achieved 100 million weekly active users. He also unveiled the new GPT-4 Turbo model, which is more powerful, less expensive, and supports a 128K context window.
Speaking at the company’s inaugural developer conference late on Monday, he claimed that in the two months since its inception over a year ago, the site has amassed an estimated 100 million monthly users. He informed the developers that the platform is used by over two million developers, including more than 92% of Fortune 500 businesses.
GPT-4 Turbo has 128,000 context windows, so one prompt can fit more than 300 pages of text. We also optimized its performance to deliver GPT-4 Turbo with 3x cheaper input tokens and 2x cheaper output tokens compared to GPT-4, said the company.
GPT-4 and GPT-3.5
In addition to GPT-4 Turbo, the company also releases a new version of GPT-3.5 Turbo, which supports a 16K context window by default. OpenAI also released the Assistant API to help developers create agent-like experiences in their apps.
An assistant is a purpose-built artificial intelligence that has specific instructions, uses additional information, and can use models and tools to complete tasks. The new Assistant API provides new features such as code interpretation and search and function calls, said the company.
What is the Open AI Text-to-Speech API?
OpenAI introduces a text-to-speech API that offers six preset voices and two generative AI model versions. Developers can now create human-quality speech using the speech-to-speech API. Pricing starts at $0.015 per 1000 characters. Developers can also integrate DALL·E 3, which was recently launched for ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise users, directly into their applications and products, the company said.
