New Update

MyMobiler is a software tool which lets you operate your Android phone/Windows Mobile 5/6 right from your PC. The desktop application controls your device through either a USB connection or Wi-Fi. It allows you to see your mobile device remotely and capture the screen or video. What you see in the desktop application is a replica of your device's screen and you can interact with your device using the PC's mouse and keyboard. You can copy/cut/paste text between the device and the desktop and transfer files between them. MyMobiler includes a separate explorer program, which lets you explore the filesystem of the device.

System requirements for using MyMobiler

MyMobiler for Android requires Android version 2.2 or later and can be downloaded from http://ld2.in/4ex for both Windows Mobile and Android. For Windows Mobile, you will need to have installed and configured ActiveSync (for Windows XP) or Windows Mobile Device Center (for later versions of Windows). These can be obtained from http://ld2.in/4ey and http://ld2.in/4ez respectively. The desktop application is available both as an installer as well as in the form of a ZIP file.

For Android devices, you will need the corresponding USB driver, which can be obtained from the respective OEM's website in most cases. In the absence of a USB driver, you can still use the `Keyboard-only' mode though. Note that the first pairing of MyMobiler with your device has to happen via USB only, not over Wi-FI. Subsequent pairings over Wi-Fi are allowed. You will also need to install MyMobiler on the device itself, which can be done from MyMobiler's context menu.

How to use this tool

For browsing files on Windows Mobile, you can also use FTP clients like FileZilla. The file transfer uses ports 21/20 and MyMobiler itself uses port number 1004. So in case you are using MyMobiler over Wi-Fi, you will need to make sure that these ports aren't blocked in any intermediate firewall (including but not limited to your desktop's firewall). The default username and password is "admin"/"hello". MyMobiler will show an icon in the system tray when running. What's particularly interesting is that you will also get notifications of incoming calls, sms, email, etc on your desktop and you can configure MyMobiler to switch off the device's screen as long as it is connected to your PC.

For Android devices, you will need to enable USB debugging (via Settings > Apps > Development > USB debugging) and will also need to grant permission to allow installation of apps from unknown sources. You will also need to switch the input method to the Mobiler keyboard after the pairing has been established.

Users finding it difficult to adapt to a touchscreen-based device or having difficulty typing small keys will find it particularly useful to be able to interact with the device using their conventional PC's keyboard having larger keys.

Use cases

Here are some situations where using MyMobiler can be better than directly interacting with the device: Typing long messages, since we usually tend to type faster on the PC's keyboard; recovering data from phones with broken/damaged displays (but are otherwise functional and have MyMobiler installed), and using physically damaged soft keys (such as volume rocker) of the device from within MyMobiler using PC keyboard shortcuts.
