Optus launched a new Cloud based offering dubbed ‘Optus OfficeApps’, targetting small to medium businesses. A statement from the telco said Optus OfficeApps is set to deliver integrated business tools via an online portal, as well as 24/7 support and access to Google Apps. Managing director of Optus SMB, Rohan Ganeson, said the offering is part of a partnership between Google and Optus.

“Our first OfficeApps package combines the power of the Google and Optus relationship so that SMBs can take advantage of Google’s innovative tools and Optus’ customer service excellence at the same time,” Ganeson said in a statement.

“It also includes domain name hosting so small businesses can easily take that next step to look more professional. The email and collaboration suite is a compelling and affordable alternative to traditional ‘on-premise’ email and collaboration solutions which require small businesses to invest in hardware.”

The cost of Optus’ package can reach $25 per user per month; Google Apps costs $US50 per year. In a statement from Google, it said Optus was the only Australian telco to partner with the company for Google Apps deployment, but that it was “working with telcos across the region like Singtel in Singapore, SK Telecom in Korea and Tata Communications in India”. Optus made the announcement of a partnership with Google earlier this year, with Ganeson saying the move was the telco’s first entry to the software as a service space.>/p>
