On Monday, Panasonic introduced the Lumix S5II, a new hybrid full-frame mirrorless camera, as the latest addition to its Lumix S series in India. The camera's standout features include Phase Hybrid autofocus and picture stabilisation technology. The Lumix S5II is joined by the Lumix S5IIX, which has a more comprehensive video feature set and will be released in the "coming months" alongside a new 14-28mm ultrawide L-mount half-macro zoom lens.

Features of the Lumix S5II and S5IIX cameras

  • The Lumix S5II and S5IIX have a newly built 24MP 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor with PDAF.
  • According to Panasonic, the image engine used in the cameras has also been freshly designed to achieve high resolution, natural description, and about 2x faster signal processing for high bitrate recording.
  • Leica and Lumix collaborated to create the image engine.
  • Another new feature of these cameras is real-time LUT, which allows you to colour grade your images in the field to produce a more polished appearance immediately from the camera.
  • This function is convenient for folks who are unfamiliar with picture editing tools.
  • Active Image Stabilization Technology is also included to assist in keeping the video steady in various shooting scenarios and situations.
  • The Lumix S5II and S5IIX cameras can detect camera shaking and corrective ratios, and Panasonic says that these cameras compensate for camera shake 200% better than traditional picture stabilisation.

Panasonic emphasised Indian weddings during the launch ceremony, implying that these cameras shine in wedding photography. As a result, they use Phase Hybrid autofocus technology in conjunction with superior subject detection and metering algorithms to capture the target subject in focus even in low-light situations.

Price and Availability

While the Lumix S5II will be available shortly at Lumix Lounges, Panasonic Lumix 4K Zones, and the dealer network across India, the S5IIX will have to wait a little longer, as the firm claims it will be released in the "coming months." The Lumix S5II body costs Rs 1,94,990, the Lumix S5II kit with the 20-60mm F3.5-5.6 lens costs Rs 2,24,990, and the Lumix S5II combo kit costs Rs 2,44,990 with two lenses - the 20-60mm F3.5-5.6 lens and the Lumix S 50mm F1.8 lens.
