This multifunctional device from Panasonic has a monochrome laser printer,
copier, fax and scanner into one compact unit. It has a USB 2.0 interface for PC
connectivity and comes preloaded with 32 MB memory. The printer and copier
resolution is of 600 x 600 dpi. You can get up to 99 copies at a time, and the
size can be varied from 50% to 200%. The scanning resolution from ADF is 600
dpi, while from flatbed you can achieve scanning resolution of 9600 dpi. The fax
transmission is of 33.6 kbps and the device is capable of storing 170 pages in
its built-in memory. The 'PC Fax' feature allows the faxing of documents
directly from a PC. During the test the printer was able to achieve its rated
speed of 18 pages per minute, with a first page out in about 16 seconds. While
for quality test the printer performance was average, when compared to Canon
4122 that lies within the same price bracket. Lines and curves formation was
smooth, appeared light. On a full-page monographic print taken at 600 dpi, some
banding was clearly visible. The copying speed was fine however, its quality was
average. As a copy obtained even with the highest contrast ratio settings, was
not as dark as compared to the original document.
Bottomline: An ideal device for SMBs to integrate tasks like
printing, copying, scanning and sending faxes.
