This MFD has a monochrome laser printer, a flat bed color scanner and copier.
It has a USB 2.0 interface with an option for network adapter. It has 32 MB
memory, and maximum print resolution of 600 dpi. Unlike other MFDs, it comes
with unique 3-bin output tray. So, you can assign each tray for one workgroup.
It can also be configured to serve as output bin for fax, copy and print jobs
separately. The fax transmission is up to 33.6 kbps (as rated). It comes bundled
with OmniPage OCR software.
In case of print job, this device matched its rated ppm of 18 pages, with the
first page out in 16 seconds. For printing a full page monochrome graphics, it
took the same time, at 300 dpi. The minimal readable text was 4-point normal. In
the gray scale image test, pixelation occurred. At 600 dpi, the results were
better with the smallest readable text being 2-point normal. The gray scale and
the fountain fill were better this time. Line art and curves were smoother.
Then, in case of copy, it achieved the rated ppm of 18 pages. The quality was
good for text documents. But in monochrome graphics the curves were broken. For
scanning a full page color image (A4 size) it took 2 min 40 sec at 600 dpi. For
fax, setting up the system was an easy job. It has 2 MB transmission memory and
8 MB reception memory.
Bottomline: It's a decent MFD, and a good option particularly for
medium-sized businesses.
