Branded players in this category have increased in the past year, hence the introduction of this category. Today, most speaker systems follow the x.1 terminology, where x is the number of speakers, and .1 is the sub-woofer for the base effect. So, you have 3.1, 4.1, and 5.1 speaker systems, giving different levels of sound effects. Most motherboards come with enhanced onboard audio, supporting multi- point speaker systems and digital sound through

SPDIF.

Mercury emerged as the most popular brand for speakers, followed by some well-known and established brands. Most people who voted for Mercury chose it because it’s a well-known brand and offers better service. Yamaha got its points because of good quality. Interestingly, Mercury needs to step up activity in the North and East, as it didn’t get any response from there.

A major player in this  category, Altec Lansing, is missing, probably because it was

only introduced in India this year.
