The 2010 edition of PCQuest awards was held amidst fanfare on the 28th of
July 2010 in Mumbai. Awards were given out in 13 different categories and the
representatives were out in numbers.
Airtel outranked the others and was, by the jury, unanimously awarded the Best
Overall IT project. Airtel's unified GIS has created a virtual map of all the
road and rail networks in India. It has also processed the topography of the
country and created its own reference bank.
Irving Berling might have been orchestrating a version of his memorable,
“Anything you can do, I can do better,” in Intercontinental Lalit's ballroom,
when the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) was called on to accept their
award. Dinesh Kumar, Executive Director-IT, claimed the award for the most
innovative project in this year. The video compiled by PCQuestshowed how NTPC
used a collaborative framework to speed up development of its 40+ power
projectsKumar's brainchild integrated 40+ projects and kept them on track by
resolving critical issues on time. Eko Microfinance was recognized for its
social impact for their application-SimpliBank. Matteo Chiampo, COO, Eko
Financial Services, in the video, described his journey and his idea. The
application caters to a largely illiterate/semi-literate population who are
uncomfortable operating a bank account. SimpliBank is core banking solution
deployed in the cloud and operated by consumers from their mobile phone and
banks shy away from them because their transaction volumes are very low.. Along
lines very similar to Eko Financial Services, one of India's most popular banks,
Bank of Punjab, snagged the Best Automation Project. PNB had sponsored six
regional rural banks in turn empowering 1400 branches to implement core banking
solutions. Ajay Misra, General Manager (CTO), said, the implementation in RRBs
had started reaping the benefits in terms of improved customer services,
improved housekeeping and centralized generation of MIS reports.

Infosys were recognized for the most complex project-Proactive Performance Risk
Analysis and Remediation Governance Model. Ramesh G, Head-Technology,
represented Infosys and described how Infosys had dealt with challenges in
scaling-up projects.

ICICI is no stranger to PCQuest's IT implementation with its third in a row. The
Pre Delinquency Management system was awarded the largest scale project. The
project developed by ICICI monitors over thirty million customers and identifies
which customer is likely to default or become delinquent, and take pre-emptive
action to salvage the situation. Mahindra & Mahindra's team trooped up on stage
to pick up the Maximum Business Impact for Project Harmony. 19 key processes
from HR, 14 from procurement and 11 key processes from finance were harmonized
across the group and brought onto a single instance of SAP. Reliance
Infrastructure was the called up next to be awarded the Best Automation project.
Reliance manages the biggest generation, transmission, distribution, and trading
of electricity in Mumbai. Though the Green-It solutions at Reliance were
admirable, SBI had beaten everyone for their Best Green IT Project award. SBI
had been making efforts for the last two years to introduce a greener solution
to their banking They have been successful in deploying 10,000 green ATMs across
the country.. SBI was not the only company recognized for its green methods.
Aircel's world class Tier-III compliant green data center turned heads as well.
The project was designed and implemented by Wipro Eco Energy, the clean energy
division of Wipro.

PCQuest then proceeded to give out three E-governance awards. School Education
Dept, Govt of MP: MP State Education Portal was announced the winners,
Government of India in collaboration with Wipro were the runner ups for the
Automation of Central Excise & Service Tax
Warning System was given a special mention for its very accurate warning system.
The system sounds out tsunami related warnings, prevent damage and save cost of
evacuation in case of a false alarm.
