K-EDGE is a knowledge management portal deployed for Perot Systems, which is
an information technology service provider, to provide a single and
comprehensive system that addresses the needs of both employees and the
organization.
The main objective behind this project is to increase productivity, by
connecting people with the right content and experts in a timely manner, so as
to enable project acceleration, promote reusability in terms of processes,
tools, code set and methodologies. It also intended to create a feedback system
from users, and promoting peer mentoring and cloud mentoring.
The biggest challenge in front of them was the sharing of knowledge across
6000 people working across the geography and across 6 to 7 major verticals. It
was the key challenge to understand each business need and building the system
that would cater to all the business needs with no redundancy. Apart from these
they face the challenge to find skilled developer who can build custom modules
and deploy them along with MOSS 2007.
Finally, the outcome was the complete deployment of K-EDGE knowledge
management portal. With the help of this portal, now employees are able to
connect with peers and subject matter experts and access content faster than
ever before, thereby saving a lot of time.
Plus users have started using social networking to create their own knowledge
networks and have started leveraging personal blogging to showcase their
thoughts and ideas.
