ProCurve is an easy to install wireless access point for SMBs. It supports
IEEE802.11a, b, and g clients simultaneously with its dual IEEE802.11a and b/g
radio. It also has PoE (Power over Ethernet) formax deployment flexibility.
ProCurve can support up to 64clients simultaneously with elaborate security
features likeWPA2, RADUS-based MAC authentication, and MAC addresslockout.
To test the performance we connected it with IEEE802.11g client and used 1000
bytes of payload. WithTCP protocol the throughput was 17 Mbps andwith UDP it was
17 Mbps. The response time forTCP was1 ms, and for UDP it was 2 ms,which is
average. The throughput achieved by ProCurve is lesswhen compared to that of
Micronet Wirless Router-SP918GK(20 Mbps in TCP and 16 Mbps in UDP, reviewed Jan
'08).

Further, we created isolated network with one computer con-nected via
Ethernet to access point and other laptop (802.11g)connected wirelessly. Then we
used 50 MB of data that includedmultimedia files and transferred that data from
one computer toother, which took about 55 sec, while Micronet Router took less
time(48 sec) for the same task.
BOTTOMLINE: Slightly overpriced, but owing to
its features (supporting 8 SSIDs, 64 clients) this can be considered for SMBs
