Prometheus XVII

Eluktronics has been famous for bringing fresh new designs for gaming laptops, and it has continued to do so with the new Prometheus XVII. This gaming laptop looks like any other gaming laptop out there but has multiple big and small factors that make it stand out in the current market and scenario. For starters, it is cheaper than most regular gaming laptops out there.

To get the maximum performance out of a laptop, companies would usually supply more wattage to the CPU and GPU, most of the time the GPU, and this makes them run really hot. To curb the thermal throttling companies tend to make the laptops really thick which makes them harder to carry around.

However, it is not the case with this laptop. It is thinner than most regular gaming laptops but the performance is at par with the thick gaming laptops out there.

It is powered by the AMD Ryzen 7 5800H which is an 8 core and16 thread processor with a max boost clock of up to 4.4Ghz. Supporting it is the Nvidia RTX 3070. The 17-inch display has a 1440p resolution making gaming an immersive and enjoyable experience.

The presence of the 1440p display means that it consumes a lot of power. A notable thing is that it has the same GPU as the Asus TUF Dash F15 and MSI GS 66 but the benchmarks for this laptop are better. It has to do with the thermals on the laptop. The company has managed to design the thermals inside the system to handle heat much better.

There are also some software features that give users extensive control over the CPU and GPU performance. This is enthusiast-level stuff, and you really need to know what you are doing to your system.

On the inside, there is a slot of 2 NVMes and 2 RAM sticks. It has 5 heat pipes and 4 exhaust vents which is fairly aggressive. At a glance, this does not look like a ground-breaking thermal solution. The battery on the laptop is a 60-watt hour battery, and it is a small battery not just for a 17-inch gaming laptop, but just laptops in general and for a laptop with a 1440p panel, this laptop consumes a lot of juice.

You can get somewhere over 2 hours of battery back-up so if you are looking for a desktop replacement where you will use it in a single place, this is a very good option for that. The speakers on the laptop sound like any other laptop speakers which are not very loud or impressive.

The keyboard is a simple membrane keyboard which gives a good tactile feel while gaming, as well as typing plus it, also has a dedicated number pad with it. The touchpad is decent and comes with an option of turning half of it off. This might not make a lot of sense, but it is an added feature.

The 1440p display is excellent for playing games. You see things more clearly and the experience is highly immersive. It comes with a 4ms response time, 307 nits, 99% sRGB and 86v% Adobe RGB.

However, one thing to keep in mind is that you lock yourself in the 1440p resolution and even though most modern games come with a render scale option, playing at 1080p resolution shows slight scaling issues. If you are someone who is really into competitive gaming, this should be taken into consideration. This thing continues with video playback as well. 1080p videos might seem a little off, but it is not very noticeable.

The centrally placed hinge is very ell built, and unlike some laptops that have fallen apart because of this type of hinge, this laptop is very well-built when it comes to the hinge mechanism.

There are 3 USB-A ports and 1 USB-C port. There is also a full-sized SD card slot if that matters. This is a very powerful laptop that delivers the performance that you get in the chonky laptops in the market. It offers good clock speeds, good temperatures and is under an inch thick.
