For a long time, there have been rumors that Apple is working on a mixed reality (MR) headset. Apple's much-anticipated MR headgear may finally enter the market later this year, despite the company having to delay the launch announcements due to hardware design and software difficulties.

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg claims that Apple has begun demonstrating the device to a select group of augmented reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) app developers as soon as the device is ready.

Software for MR Headset

Apple has even finalized the software for its MR headset, naming it xrOS, and the company wants to have enough supporting apps available for the launch. The Cupertino-based company intends to announce it as "Reality Pro" during the spring, probably in March or April, a few months before the annual WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference).

However, Apple Reality Pro will not be available for purchase in stores immediately following the launch; rather, it will be sold alongside new iPhones in the fall (September).

According to Gurman, Apple has diverted a significant amount of internal resources to ensure that the Reality Pro's software, app ecosystem, and hardware issues are all resolved.

Many people believe that the new product category that Apple is betting heavily on will be the company's next big moneymaker.

This also means that other devices, like the iPhone, iPad, and Mac, that will be updated in 2023 may not have a lot of new features compared to their predecessors. The Meta Quest and HTC Vive VR headgear will be in competition with the Apple Reality Pro.
