Micromax has confirmed that the company is working on a new smartphone

Micromax was one of those brands that once went head to head with big names like Nokia and Samsung in the Indian smartphone market. The brand was so successful in the Indian market that it launched LED television, speakers, and other lifestyle products. Sadly, like many other Indian brands, Micromax too wasn't able to compete with the onslaught of the Chinese smartphone manufacturers like Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, Oneplus, and many others. With more and more Chinese brands entering the Indian market the consumer was spoilt for choice and price to performance became the deciding factor for many Indians. Now it looks like with the anti-china sentiment sweeping India Micromax has decided to make a comeback.

Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma said that the company was looking to regain its spot in the smartphone market through the multiple handsets it has planned to launch in the future. He also promised that the phones would look to “disrupt the market.” Even though he later clarified that the Micromax comeback plan was put before the anti-China sentiment swept the country we do believe that the comeback was to a degree planned or extremely lucky. Rahul Sharma further added “We actually sensed an opportunity on a global scale when the US-China trade war began over a year ago. This anti-China feeling in India is recent and you cannot plan on launching smartphones overnight," Sharma said.

The YU line of devices was targetted towards super users of Android and came with CyanogenMod as its OS.
