InFocus already acclaimed much appreciation from consumers with their portfolio of smartphones, appealing to the young audience from different walks of life. And now they are taking game to next level by bringing affordable LED's in to Indian market. InFocus is launching its most versatile LED TV line-up, which consists of entry level HD offerings to its highest performing Full HD TVs, in a variety of screen sizes.
Design and Features
The InFocus 50" LED TV is one of the offerings from the range, bringing larger screen size viewing experience, various connectivity options at an attractive price. The TV looks decent, has thin black bezels and will complement with most of the home decors.
The lower-left corner holds a indicator light that only turns on yellow when the HDTV is powered on by remote, else remains red(in standby). The entire TV sits on two black stands on both sides that holds it up securely, but wobbles if you push the screen by fingers. You can also mount the TV on the wall without the stand. The five physical buttons for power on, volume up/down, channels, input selection are housed at bottom right corner. All other ports including USB, HDMI and other Analog controls are housed at back panel.
The TV utilizes Direct LED technology wherein a full array of backlight LED are placed behind the screen, rather than Edge Lit panel in which all LED's resides on the edges of panel.
The DLED panel is particularly useful if TV manufactures allows the use of local dimming. Doing so, you can locally switch ON, OFF or dim a segment where it is needed and can be effective in producing great black levels in dark scenes or areas in movies.
Performance
To review the picture quality, we fed the Infocus LED TV with various Full HD movies, sound tracks and also watched normal TV. The advanced DLED technology gives pictures that are pleasing to look at with rich colors.
Watching the Gravity, the images looked great and spectacular, even in darker areas it did not let us down and produced great black levels. When we fed the TV with Life Of Pi movie, which is surely an visual masterpiece, there is a shot wherein the life boat floats in the ocean. The scene truly looked excellent at the TV and the surface of the ocean combined with sky and lifeboat looked magnificent.
Even in the sunrise and sunset, it produced hues and images as close possible to nature. Then again there is another scene in night wherein only thing remains at the screen is lifeboat and rest everything is black, which I must say the TV produced true black and the scene looked fabulous. Another scene when Pi is sitting and staring into the sea, the view produced by TV is breath taking. The fish are luminescent and a big whale swims over and takes a giant leap. We also watched normal TV and it looked decent.
Though the InFocus claims a 178 degree wide viewing angles, we were not impressed by the side viewing. The colors lost their originality when viewed off-axis, thus there was loss in color uniformity. The screen performs better if you are directly in front.
The remote control is easy to use and has direct buttons for switching to TV, USB, HDMI source. Even the on-screen menus are clear and easy to navigate.
The 16W sound output produced from the TV speakers is good enough for movies and movies. But if you really want an bass heavy audio or want to make a home theater system, we recommend you to invest in an external speaker or a sound bar with this TV.
