The latest AIO from Lenovo is meant for transaction workers for their day to day productivity work. That’s why instead of being based on a more powerful Core i3 or i5 based processor, the E63z is based on Intel’s Atom based SoC, the Pentium J2900.
About the onboard Intel Pentium Processor
The system has a quad core Pentium J2900 SoC, which is a part of the Bay Trail-D platform. Clocked at 2.4 GHz, the SoC’s cores are based on Intel’s new Silvermont architecture, which has many enhanced features like increased utilization of the pipeline, optimized branch prediction, increased buffers, and enhanced decoders. All these translate to increased performance per clock by about 50 percent. Plus, there’s support for a new instruction set extensions like SSE 4.1 and 4.2.
Good ergonomic design and features
ThinkCentre E63z is a stylish and slim all-in-one desktop designed to save space in business environment. The desktop sports a 19.5 inch HD+WLED screen (with an option for touch), stereo speakers, an integrated webcam and support for voice over IP (VoIP) as well. The HD+ 1600*900 resolution gives visuals higher than 720p.The display features a 10 point multi touch capacitive touch screen with an edge to edge black bezel. It features an easel stand housed at its back that lets you adjust the display and also provides a solid base for the screen.
A USB 3.0 port and 3.5mm audio jack are housed at the left side of the screen. Back ports include 2 USB 2.0, power cable port and Ethernet port. The included mouse and keyboard are not bluetooth enabled and are powered by USB cable.
Powerful performance
We ran several benchmarks to check the AIO for its computing capability and were not disappointed by its performance. In PC Mark 8 Creative test suite, it scored 1391. The creative tests include web-browsing, photo editing, media performance etc. The result ensures that E63Z is capable of performing a series of multimedia tasks and office productivity suites without any lag. In 3D Mark 11, it scored P267. Preparing presentations, browsing web or streaming HD videos is breeze on this device.
The 8GB RAM memory is great for multitasking. You could get away with using 4GB on most Windows 8 systems, but 8GB gives you the extra space to keep dozens of tabs open in your browser, or help you play a game and keep several messaging windows open simultaneously.
The AIO supports 10-point multi touch and has good touch sensitivity that responds to the slightest touch. Zooming, pinching, and rotating images is effortless and accurate and the edge to edge glass made it easy to swipe and open app bars. Typing with the on-screen keyboard is joy. The desktop does not wobble while using the touch screen. The viewing angles are good, but the screen is a bit reflective, so might not be suitable when the screen’s background is dark or the display faces a light source. The AIO has an excellent display with sharp and vivid color reproduction for everything you work on, be it documents or web surfing.
Speakers below the screen deliver enough sound to fill a midsize room with decent bass that makes you enjoy your multimedia content, though there’s not much heavy bass for music or movies. The lack of an HDMI-in means you won’t be able to hook up another PC to the system to help extend the useful life of the display. The 128 GB SSD is enough for your office or business environment, but it has limited storage capacity for home entertainment purpose.
