With Yoga Tablet 2, Lenovo enters the Rs.20,000+ segment moving beyond the budget and mid-range tablet space and competing with the likes of Samsung and Apple

Lenovo recently expanded its Yoga tablet lineup powered by Intel processors. The new range comes with Full HD resolution, Dolby Wolfson HiFi audio, 8 MP rear and 1.6 HD front camera. Lenovo is offering the tablet in 3 sizes and 2 operating systems so users can choose the model that is right for them. Besides Android models in 8, 10 and 13.3 inch, consumers can now for the first time choose a Windows model, available in 10-inch size. With the unique design and funky kickstand enable the user to use it in four different ways: Hold, Tilt, Stand, and Hang.

Great design aesthetics

The Yoga Tablet 2 has an innovative design and comes integrated into a tough metallic body that is backed up by a scratch resistant back panel which makes it comfortable to use. It is designed in a silver plastic body with a few real metal accents here and there. It gets the cylindrical edge, which enhances the overall beauty and grip. The cylindrical battery bulge used as a grip to hold the device works well with both the hands.

The back panel gets a fine textured finish over the plastic body. It boasts an 8-inch 1920X1200 pixel display running on Android KitKat 4.4 OS and is powered by 1.3 GHz Intel Atom Z3745 processor. It also packs 8 MP rear and 1.6 MP front cameras, a micro SD card slot and 9600 mAh battery. The tablet comes with a cylindrical base which houses the mega-sized battery and also acts as a kickstand for the tablet. The kickstand enables the user to use it in four different modes: Hold, Tilt, Stand and Hang. Volume controls and micro -USB ports are housed at left side of device.

Good performer

It is a good device and the heavy apps and games run with ease. The touch screen is responsive and works well with just the slightest touch and registering the desired input is a breeze. Multitasking is also smooth on this device without any performance lag even when you try to run multiple tabs at the same time. But there was a slight heating when we streamed videos over YouTube. The device is equipped with all basic features like 3G SIM support, Wi-Fi and USB OTG. The IPS panel coupled with 1920X1200 resolution delivers bright, rich colors and good viewing angles. The display is great for consuming multimedia content. Watching videos and playing games on it was a pleasure.

The front facing speakers are quite good in terms of quality and offer fairly loud sound with Wolfson Master HiFi audio processing. The 8 MP rear auto-focus camera with BSI-2 sensor clicks detailed images in daylight and can also adapt to different lighting conditions. You can shoot quality video with the rear camera, but the only thing that is missing in the device is flash- even though, it was able to click decent quality images in low light but with a little noise. The 1.6 MP front snapper is pretty basic and is just good enough for video chats. Out of the 16 GB internal storage you get approx 10.50 GB of storage left to store your multimedia content. However you can expand the storage via a micro-SD card slot. The multi-mode allows you to use up to 4 apps simultaneously.

Long battery life

The tablet incorporates 9600 mAH battery and was expected to deliver 18 hours of backup as per Lenovo’s claims. During our battery test, where we looped a video under full brightness and sound until the battery drained out, it lasted for about 16 hours and 20 minutes.
