Do you use public WiFi frequently? Then be aware, you can become a soft target for hackers. It has become common since most of the public places started offering free WiFi. Though, good but dangerous as well. Many hackers keep their eyes on such public WiFis to get access to devices and steal your data. So, what you do, stop using public WiFi! No better to make your device secure enough to deal with such attacks which using free wifi.

Norton recently announced its WiFi Privacy solution that secures private information like your passwords, bank account, and credit card numbers when using public Wi-Fi on your PC, Mac or mobile device. Norton WiFi Privacy helps encrypt this information so you can use your PC, Mac, smartphone or tablet on any public Wi-Fi hotspot without worry.

Norton WiFi Privacy encrypts the data you send and receive when using public Wi-Fi. Now you can pay bills, check your email and interact on your social network – in the café, airport or hotel. Setup and performance

You can download the app you Windows, and Android devices and then activate free trial or put your license key. Create or fill-in your existing Norton account details and you are secured.

As the app uses VPN (Virtual Private Network) to keep you secure so it randomly picks locations and block ads. To offer you better experience it switches between nearest servers, and as per Norton, it currently offers about 29 server locations, it matters a lot as it using a VPN this you need a server close to you in order to reduce latency. This also helps to enhance your surfing experience.

I used it on my Android OnePlus 3T phone, Norton offers a clean and easy user experience. Once activated, the app automatically selects the closest VPN server. However, you can manually change your location. To do that, simply go to third “Select Region” option and choose from the list

As you are using a VPN, thus some effect would be there on your connection. Meaning you can see a bit different in the download and upload speed due to server location as latency impacts on both.

I used Speedtest app from Ookla to see the difference. When Norton WiFi Privacy was disabled, speed test came with results -

Download 7.26, Upload 0.47 and Ping 191

When enabled

Download 6.59, Upload 0.34 and Ping 190

Download 6.19, Upload 0.48 and Ping 216

All of my tests use the automatically selected server, which in this case was located in Amsterdam. Though the download and upload speed impacted a while using the Norton WiFi Privacy but, it hardly made any difference in experience.

Also, it has ad blocker that works efficiently and automatically activated VPN protection.
