Almost in a year, OPPO has launched some good phones including one of the thinnest smartphones of the world, one with a rotating camera setup that is still very distinctive and individual to OPPO. It tried to go for mid range segment with their new phone-- OPPO Mirror 5.
Is this phone acceptable for Rs 14990 ? What makes it a desirable gadget? Lets find out.
Design that dazzles like a mirror
OPPO Mirror 5 completely looks unique with individual cut-glass sections having mirror finish on the back cover. OPPO continues its trend for using glass and metal combination for making sleek handset. The power button and volume rocker can be found to the right and left respectively, and are easy to operate. The micro USB port is at the bottom, and a 3.5 mm audio jack at the top. This smartphone has non removable battery. But when you open the back cover, there is a dual SIM slot and a microSD card slot.
The phone feels good in hand with a thickness of 7.7 mm and weighs 160 grams and can be easily operated by one hand. The plastic rear cover and the glass panel up front are quite prone to fingerprints, and it is difficult to keep the device clean from scratches and smudges.
Design wise this OPPO has a solid, shiny design.
A little less brighter display
The OPPO Mirror 5 comes with a 5-inch IPS LCD display having a 960 x 540 resolution. There is no display protection like Gorilla Gorilla Glass, but OPPO does include a screen protector in the box. When you use this phone indoors then there is no problem but when you are in direct sunlight,you hardly see anything on screen. Touch of the screen is good and even gestures are decent.
Decent camera
The camera of OPPO Mirror 5 is good. The phone features an eight-megapixel rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and a host of fun features such as the Ultra HD mode, Slow shutter mode, Beautify mode and about 13 image filters. On a bright sunny day the camera is capable of churning out sharp looking pictures with accurate colours.

Image processing is quick and auto-focus is quite effective too. The camera struggles in low-light though. The 5-megapixel front camera is good for individual selfies only, if the lighting is perfect.
Performance and Battery Life
OPPO Mirror 5 comes with a 1.2 GHz quad-core 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor and 2 GB of RAM. Multi-tasking is smooth, and the device handles gaming very well, with the low resolution display meaning that you won’t be seeing a lot of frame drops. The Mirror 5 comes with 16 GB of internal storage, which is expandable through microSD card by up to 128 GB. Apart from a standard suite of connectivity options, the device also comes with dual SIM capabilities and 4G LTE support, but it’ll be a good idea to check for compatibility with your local network carrier first. Up front, there is a notification LED above the display to the right, and below the display are the three capacitive back, home, and recent apps keys.
With a single speaker on the back, that does sound good, with no distraction on high volume this phone gives us a nice feel of sound.
On benchmarks it scores:
Antutu=22426
3D mark=4423
Quadrant=13703
Vellamo=2117
As far as the battery life is concerned, the 2,420 mAh non-removable unit of the Mirror 5 has a good battery life. In our battery tests this smartphone played out continuous HD video over Wi-Fi in full sound and brightness for 10 good hours.
