The N140 is one of the first netbooks to be available in
the market that comes preloaded with Windows 7 Starter Edition. The top has a
glossy finish which makes the netbook extremely prone to fingerprints. This
10.1” netbook features a bright display in a 16:9 aspect ratio and boasts of an
easy resolution manager that allows the resolution to be pumped up to 1024 x 768
if the running program supports it.
The netbook sports a spillproof keyboard, which is a joy to
work on. The trackpad is not the largest we have seen, but has good response. It
has 3 USB ports, Ethernet, VGA out and a card reader with a slide power button.
Powered by the an Intel Atom N280 processor running at 1.66GHz, 1GB DDR2 RAM,
and Intel 950 graphics, the netbook doesn't offer anything new in terms of
hardware, other than being the only one with 250GB hard drive. The netbook
scored 149 3Dmarks in 3Dmark 06 which is quite average. It gave a battery
backup of 6 hours, which is great, but certainly not the best. It scored a 2.2
system rating in Windows 7. The audio output from the speakers is good enough
for personal listening only. We were able to play Counter-Strike at 800 x 600
resolution at decent FPS, but HD movies failed to play. Weighing at 1.2Kg, the
netbook has the advantage of coming with Windows 7 with a great keyboard and
trackpad.

Bottomline: The Samsung netbook is a good buy as it
scores on ergonomics, good battery life and is one of the first one to come with
Windows 7.
