New Update

Samsung has decided to take things into its own hands and rejuvenate its fortune in the highly-competitive social messaging arena with its ChatOn app that has been around for a while. It comes back from the wilderness in the form of version 3.5, that not only is available to Samsung users but for the first time goes cross-platform much like what BlackBerry did with its BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) earlier this year. "Samsung is looking to increase its foothold in the mobile messaging arena with ChatOn that is now available to users on Android, iOS as well as feature phones", the company noted in a statement.

The new look ChatOn has been bundled with some nifty and useful features that are really different from what anyone else is offering right now. The app supports file transfer up to 1 GB, you can send chat messages to 1000 friends in one go, figure out your location in case you get lost and many more.

Taking a cue from how BlackBerry managed to see rise in number of BBM users on other platform, must have played a crucial role in strengthening Samsung's belief that social messaging is the future . Which is why their involvement at this juncture doesn't come as a surprise. The likes of WhatsApp, WeChat and Line among others have talked about their user base numbers worldwide and with India's smartphone penetration still minuscule, the potential to reach further user is immense.

Facebook acquires WhatsApp for a whopping $19 billion and makes everyone sit and notice. The thing that really intrigued with the WhatsApp purchase, is the direction in which technology was moving forward which seems to be angling towards mobility communication.

You can download the app for Android, iOS and drop us a comment about your messaging experience.
