Samsung releases One UI 5 beta, based on Android 13

Prior to its Galaxy event on August 10, Samsung company released the One UI 5 open beta program, which will give users access to a new UI, based on Android 13.

Prior to its Galaxy event on August 10, Samsung company released the One UI 5 open beta program, which will give users access to a new UI, based on Android 13. The first phones will be Galaxy S22 series (Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra) to have the One UI 5 beta program in the US, Germany, and South Korea.

"One UI 5 brings a range of new customization, security, and accessibility features as part of Samsung's ongoing commitment to delivering the latest mobile experiences to as many users as possible," the company stated in a release.

"We're excited to offer early access to all the new customizable features that come with One UI 5 as part of an open beta and look forward to incorporating user feedback to develop a better and more meaningful experience for everyone," said Janghyun Yoon, Executive Vice President and Head of Software Platform Team of Mobile eXperience (MX) Business, Samsung Electronics.

The new UI will focus on increased customization options so that users can choose the look and the feel of their phone based on the wallpaper, ensuring increased privacy and safety options. It will also make the screen feel decluttered and organized.

Highlights of One UI 5:

  • Decluttered screen real estate with the option to stack widgets of the same size on a single location
  • More customization options with an expanded set of colour options
  • Up to 16 preset colour themes will be available based on the wallpaper in addition to 12 more colour options for the home screens, icons, and quick panels.
  • New Security and Privacy dashboard to let users view the security status of their phone
  • The dashboard shows user's potential security issues and recommends ways to fix them. (Image credit: Samsung)

Other new features include new controls will make it easier for users to block notifications from certain apps, and easy access to ringtone volumes and vibration intensities.

Further, better photography with Pro and Pro Video mode by giving users tips and tricks regarding lenses, features, and controls more features are expected to be added as the Beta program rolls out.
