New Update

Sandisk Extreme II comes out in the form of faster and resourceful form of SSDs something that Extreme series offered quite well and with Extreme II the effectiveness of the SSD has been taken to another level. The 240 GB Extreme II SSD has delivered some top-end data transfer results and comes at par with competition in terms of our testing speeds. As you can see the Extreme II is comparatively on the slower side (different test bed) and same is the case during our HDTune tests (different test bed). During our data transfer test, the SSD was highly competent with speeds of 214 MB/sec (max) and sandisk launched its upgraded version of Extreme range of SSDs called Extreme II which is available in sizes; 120/240 and 480 GB in the market.

Test bed

We've made use of 1.6 GHz AMD E-350 CPU with 2 GB RAM running on Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit OS powered by Asus E35 M1M Pro motherboard. The source OS drive is Sandisk Ultra plus 240 GB SSD. We have used tools such as Crystaldiskmark, HDTune Pro 5.5 to guage its capability.

Performance

During our tests, the SSD scored 401.5 MB/sec (read) and 372.4 MB/sec (write) on CrystalDiskMark and in comparison the Seagate 600 scored 515 (read) and 462 (write) while the Samsung 840 EVO 750 ranks the best at 517 (read) and 502 (write). Coming to HDTune Pro the Extrme II gave us maximum of 322.9 MB/s, while Seagate and Samsung EVO 840 750 scored 356 MB/sec and 396 MB/sec respectively. During our data transfer test, the SSD was highly competent with speeds of 214 MB/sec (max) and 180 MB/sec (avg).

In terms of cost per GB, the value of Extreme II translates into Rs 116.8 per GB which in comparison to Extreme SSD (Rs 67.9 per GB) is quite steep. If you compare it with other SSDs that we have reviewed, you get Rs 132.5 per GB for Seagate 600 SSD 240, while the Samsung Evo 840 750 GB comes out the cheapest in this regard at Rs 47 per GB.
