The company didn't have any centralized platform from where the employees
could get access to information accurately and instantly on various management
policies, events, etc. To address this problem, a project was conceptualized to
develop a Java based intranet portal that will help in bringing the information
from different services under one roof for any employee.This portal enables
employees to have access to various systems like IT helpdesk, personnel
management system (PMS), etc. and get information.
To develop and implement such a portal wasn't an easy task for the team.
Among the major challenges was convincing the management about the benefits of
such a centralized system. Onother challenge was automating the documentation of
the various manual processes.
Since the company's employee database is on SAP, the application was tightly
integrated with SAP to avoid duplicity. Training the user and making them
familiar to this new system was also a challenge.
The portal has benefited the organization by automating the services
and thus saving time on various processes like PMS, Call Attendance, etc. which
used to be manual earlier.
