Save on LAN Power Costs

IT managers are adopting new and innovative ways to decrease power

consumption and simultaneously reduce an organization's carbon footprint. Prof

Shutdown is a Network Power Management tool that allows network administrators

to shutdown, reboot, hibernate, lock or wake up (Wake- on-LAN) multiple machines

simultaneously from a single system. The program can execute operations in a

multithreaded mode for multiple machines; it can execute tasks on a remote

computer and even scan for computers on a network simultaneously. And if you

have ADS in place, then nothing is required; just log on to a machine as an

administrator and install and run this application on all machines. The program

uses Windows security permissions and the Task Scheduler is used for running

actions as per schedule. Let's use it for remote power administration.

Adding a new task includes choosing actions to be executed such as shutdown, hibernate, stand-by, log-off, time duration for the message and its content.	From amongst all workstations, you can choose the ones that need not undergo a particular task. For eg, the various servers on your network.
You can configure Advanced Schedule Options for the chosen workstations, such as the start date, time, duration and periodicity.	When a scheduled task is executed on a machine, its user has the option to let it continue or cancel it altogether. This is particularly relevant when such a user is working late.
