VIP access is a free mobile application that transforms
approx 250 mobile phones and smartphones into VIP authentication tokens. This
converts your phone into a two factor authentication based one-time password
generator. It helps in adding one more layer of security on top of your existing
login credentials for many popular websites such as eBay, PayPal, AOL, Name.com,
Adobe, etc. There are around 102 websites on which you can activate this service
if you have an on line account with them. The code generated by these
applications is a onetime password, which changes every 30 seconds. To use this
application, you will require a GPRS and J2ME enabled phone.
You can download it from www.vipmobile.verisign.com. You
will be asked to enter your mobile number on which the link has to be forwarded
for downloading. You can even go to m.verisign.com from your phone's browser and
download it directly.

You can see if your phone is natively supported by this
application or not, else you can download the Java version which will work with
most phones that have a Java plugin. Once you enter your number, you will
receive the link within 30 secs, post which you can click to download the
application. It will install in one go and take a few seconds to activate
itself. After this, you will be provided with a link where you can register
yourself with Versign. As you register yourself, you will see a credential
number and a security code displayed on your phone's screen. Use this credential
number for registration into member sites. This credential number makes your
installation of the application a unique instance so that it can be linked with
your credentials. And even if you uninstall and reinstall the application on the
same handset, it will not be using the same code; so you have to re-configure
all sites where you were using VIP access again with the new code. This has been
done to make sure that no one else can clone your OTP and hack into your
accounts. Next to the the security code you will see a timer, and after every 30
secs your security code will change. For security reasons your credentials
cannot be sent to any other phone. This ensures your security code cannot be
cloned. On the Verisign website, go to the section 'where to use credentials',
and you can register yourself with various websites. We opened an account with
AOL and then registered with it through VIP access.
