security and surveillance

During the pre-Covid era, the security and surveillance industry in India had been witnessing a boom. What the pandemic has done is further added to the demands for security and surveillance systems. Security devices such as high-quality CCTV cameras, motion detection devices etc are swiftly becoming an integral setup across residential as well as commercial premises.

The pandemic has brought about some instrumental changes with regard to our security needs, as there is an increase in demands for devices that minimize contact and can be accessed remotely. Taking all factors into account, there are a few definite trends that we are likely to see in 2021.

Intelligent video technology

When we talk about ‘intelligent video technology’, we refer to contactless verification tools that are now being used extensively at workplaces and even in residential complexes. While most of these tools rely on facial recognition, a few function on QR codes or UHFID tags. Video surveillance is probably the most effective and prevalent tool used for security of any premise.

From CCTV cameras to face recognition attendance systems, a number of innovations have taken place in this domain. As a matter of fact, just the CCTV segment has a sea of offerings to choose from, such as night vision, motion detection, colour night vision, among others. This trend will continue to dominate the segment in 2021.

5G boost

The emergence of 5G, coupled with increasing internet penetration, is likely to usher in the widespread use of wireless cameras. This will further aid an even wider and faster deployment of artificial intelligence applications in security and surveillance devices and equipment. Even as the wait for the complete 5G rollout is likely to get longer, 5G cellular systems have already been deployed up to a great extent. The most significant impact of the same will be seen in data transfer by new-age security and surveillance devices.

Integration of different security systems

The security of any premise comprises a number of tools and devices, ranging from video and fire prevention tools and emergency management and access control equipment. When we go for convergence of all security and surveillance setups, it leads to a comprehensively secured space. The same can be achieved through going for automation and complete digital transformation. It is quite likely that the players in the security and surveillance market, as well as real estate, would focus in this regard.

No-contact entry solutions

This would be one of the most dominating security and surveillance trends in 2021 as well as the years ahead. While a number of commercial spaces had already gone for no-contact entry solutions such as UHFID-attached boom barriers, there is a spike in the demand for such solutions even in residential spaces. Propelled by the pandemic, more and more complexes are getting such boom barriers, tripods etc installed so that human contact can be minimized, thereby preventing the spread of any kind of virus or disease.
