The producer of the puzzle game Angry Birds, Rovio Entertainment, located in Finland, has received a tender offer from the Japanese gaming giant Sega to purchase them.

"Through the tender offer, Sega seeks to buy all of Rovio's outstanding shares and options for a total consideration of EUR 706,000,000, or EUR 9.25 per share and EUR 1.48 per option.

According to Rovio's board of directors, who approved of the acquisition and indicated support for the tender bid, it is a friendly takeover.

For what reason is Sega acquiring Rovia?

By generating synergies between Sega's existing businesses and Rovio's strengths, Sega stated that it aims to accelerate its growth in the global gaming market and increase its corporate value.

On March 31, 2022, Angry Birds 'Classic' was released. This implies that it was accessible for under a year. Angry Birds 'Classic' is a remastering of the original game, which was one of the first successful mobile games. According to a statement issued by Sega Sammy's Group CEO Haruki Satomi, "Among the rapidly growing global gaming market, the mobile gaming market has especially high potential, and it has been SEGA's long-term goal to accelerate its expansion in this field."

Sega vs Rovio

Sega, based in Tokyo, was established in 1960. It is best known for the Sonic the Hedgehog and Total War video game series, as well as consoles like the Sega Genesis and Mega Drive.

Rovio is a worldwide versatile first, games organization that makes, creates, and distributes portable games that have been downloaded north of 5 billion times. The Angry Birds game series, which began as a popular mobile game in 2009, is the brand's most well-known product.

From that point forward, it has developed from games to different amusement, anime, and shopper items — beginning from pencil boxes to table games — through brand authorizing.

The first Angry Birds game's objective was to use a slingshot and shoot a bird in an effort to eliminate a group of pigs on the other side of the screen.

While the birds had special abilities like explosion, the pigs were shielded from harm by various materials like stone, wood, and glass. Additionally, Angry Birds became the first mobile game to reach a billion downloads.
