Sharing Machines Safely

There are situations where a single computer needs to be shared between a
number of users for different purposes. This kind of sharing at times can damage
your OS or even the system. For instance, if someone knowingly or unknowingly
deletes a boot or record system file, you will have to reinstall the whole OS.
To avoid such situations it is a must that you deploy certain policies for each
user or group who is sharing the computer.

SteadyState is a tool using which one can administer the system easily and
efficiently. It allows you to protect the hard drive data on by restricting
users from making unauthorized changes. Using this tool you can also restrict
users from accessing applications and settings that you feel are liable to get
damaged if accessed by another user.

For HDD protection select the 'On' radio button in the 'Protect the HDD' option. Whatever changes are made by the user will be removed after the PC restarts.	Under the 'Set Computer Restriction' option check the appropriate policy you want to deploy and then click on OK.
For software updates you can schedule the time accordingly and it automatically saves all updates even if HDD protection is on.	For each user you can have different settings within Internet Explorer. For example, you can restrict right click for some users.
