While doing the budget tablet shootout we came across a number of handy tablets in the range of just 4-5k. At such a low price, those tablets had so much to offer. Simmtronics XPad X720 is the latest addition to this segment. Price-wise, it is in the same league as Aakash 2, but quality-wise it is superior on several counts. Its 7-inch display with a similar screen resolution of 480p seems a lot superior and brighter. Speaker packs more power than the likes of Aakash 2 and BSNL Tpad IS709C and can simply be used as a portable music player. The 1GHz Cortex A8 processor, Android 4.0 and 512MB RAM, like in Aakash 2 provide for smooth browsing, typing, video playing and gaming experience.
The front camera, placed on the diagonal edge, is a VGA and is quite satisfactory for video chatting. It supports 3G but through a USB dongle, which means you will have to spend 2k more on it. But then Aakash 2 and BSNL Penta tab don't support 3G or 2G either, and the only way to surf Internet on them is through Wi-Fi. The tab has a better battery, which gives more than 4 hours of back-up on non-stop video playback. All the buttons and ports are placed neatly on one side of this sleek looking lightweight tablet.
Bottomline: It is a great tablet for entertainment. And can be used by professionals too, whose requirements are limited to running simple apps, writing mails, web browsing and staying connected. It can't compete with iPad or Samsung tabs, but with 3G, it adds great value to this segment.
