Hyve Pryme Smartphone With MediaTek 10-core Processor Launched for Rs 17,999

Having a name that draws inspiration from the ‘beehive’, Hyve Mobility, an Indian smartphone vendor, today launched its third offering calling it Hyve Pryme in collaboration with MediaTek, the Taiwanese mobile processor giant. The smartphone has a 5.7 inch full-HD display and is powered by MediaTek’s Helio X20 SoC, their flagship deca-core processor. The smartphone offers a pure Android experience to optimise the juice provided by the chip's 10 cores.

Most smartphones available in India do not run pure Android off-the-shelf. They come customised with UI skins wrapped over Android OS thus adding to bloatware and slowing down processor speeds and also occupy a substantial bit more of the available RAM. A phone that offers pure Android always offers a faster browsing experience and and since this one is a certified Pure Android device than one should expect a faster and more optimised browsing performance with fewer backdoor updates and security concerns. Lesser bloatware also leads to more conservative battery consumption thus stretching the life of your battery.

Camera works well in low light

The rear camera of Hyve Pryme is 13MP with f/2 aperture and dual flash with other pure Android features such as HDR photography, panorama view, gesture snaps, etc that performs well even in low light conditions. At this price point we believe this provides quality pictures and videos and performs closer to some of the best cameras we have reviewed thus far. The front camera at 8 MP bucks the trend of the latest smartphones that offer higher resolution selfie cameras but does offer front flash. The selfies look crisp and deep even in low light although color saturation needs improvement.

Design and display both look pretty contemporary

The  all metal unibody design in the now ubiquitous champagne color stands neck-to-neck with its contemporaries and feels good in hand with a solid grip. The smartphone is 8.5mm thin with a 5.7” IPD capacitive display with FULL HD resolution and a 2.5D arc glass covering on top. In reality though, with navigation buttons at the bottom, the screen is really 5.5 inch available for use.

RAM, ROM and Battery

The smartphone comes with 4 GB RAM with 73% RAM availability if standard benchmark tests are to be believed. This corresponds to roughly 3 GB availability which with a pure Android experience should be good to go with regular multitasking and even for routine gaming. The 32GB internal memory is now a standard for smartphones at such a price and we don’t give the phone more marks here. The battery capacity at 3,500 mAh is also a key feature where Hyve seems to have cut corners as we routinely see smartphones coming with upwards of 4,000 mAh batteries. However, the pure Android experience should come to party here and help stretch battery life.

The deca-core MediaTek Helio X20 processor

Hyve Pryme smartphone is powered by the 2.3 GHz MediaTek Helio X20 SoC, which features Tri-Cluster CPU architecture and ten processing cores that work well during multitasking with apps. The tri-cluster technology allows the smartphone to multitask efficiently by shifting workload from one cluster of cores to another, thereby delivering an extreme computing performance and conserving battery power. Other features on MediaTek Helio X20 include ClearMotion for smoother video playback, BluLight Defender for reduced eye strain during nights and Miravision for an enhanced display experience, and Dynamic contrast for on-the-fly video enhancements.

Other nifty features that add to convenience

You can attach 5 numbers to five different fingerprint scans which can then be used for emergency/quick dialing even when your phone is locked. Called Touch2Call, the feature reduces the steps required to dial a number from five to one when you so direly need to call a relative. The memory card slot supports exFAT file system for seamless Micro SD card usage across platforms—Windows, iOS and Linux. It can support up to 200GB of external storage which is quite substantial. The USB-C with fast charge that takes 30-40 minutes to full charge is pretty decent as well. The smartphone is a dual SIM 4G/3G with pan India coverage with VoLTE which is now the de facto standard for smartphones. The IR Blaster on top can be used for remotely controlling devices with your choice of 3rd party apps from the Google Play Store.
