The Stylepad has a 7” touch-screen display with 3 touch sen-sitive buttons on the right next to the display for home, back andmenu function. The display is a resistive touchscreen with a res-olution of 800 x 480 pixels. On the left side is a small light indi-cator that changes colour to indicate battery status. On theright side is the charging port, mini USB connector, mini HDMIout and a USB 2.0 port along with a 3.5mm audio jack. Thebackside has a plain black look with grills for speaker visible.Onthe bottom is a SD card slot to expand memory. The devicecomes with a charger, a stylus, miniUSB cable and a carry sleeve.

The tablet runs on Android 2.1 OS with the default user in-terface. Even though the provided hardware of the device isgood enough for effective usage, the resistive touchscreen lit-erally kills the device. It won't recognize touch half the time andnavigating up and down leads to pressing of one button or theother instead of moving up and down. The tablet boasts of 3Dgraphics acceleration, but unfortunately it wasn't able to playany games properly. We installed Angry Birds on the device, thegame stuttered with low frame rates and was totally un-playable. Video playback was great though. The 7” displayplayed most Xvid and DivX files through USB without any has-sle. Watching live YouTube streaming was a great experienceas well, but the trouble came while watching videos under sun-light. Under direct sunlight, the reflective display made work-ing on the tablet a big hassle. The audio output was goodenough for personal listening in a room, and the outputthrough earphones was much louder.

The tablet runs on an ARM11 processor clocked at 720MHzwith 256MB RAM and 2GB memory, expandable by the SDcard slot that supports up to 32GB cards.

Unlike, quite a few other tablets available, this one doesn't have any camera on the device. It does come with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity and also boasts of outputting 1080pcontent through HDMI. However, as the box doesn't come with a mini HDMI to HDMI connector we were unable to check theHDMI output.

Bottomline: The 7” tablet from SMC could have been agood Android tablet, but gets lost among the othercheaper chinese products due to its poor touchscreen andthe price tag of Rs 16,000.
