No surprises here. It's a Windows dominated area and Windows Server 2003 is
at the top. It beats the successor, Windows Server 2008, by a huge margin. Other
brands which made it to the Users' Choice club 2010 are way behind Windows
Server 2008. Red Hat Linux was the only non-Microsoft brand to make it to the
club. The fourth brand in the club interestingly is Windows 2000 server.
What's interesting to note is that while Windows Server 2003 enjoys the
highest current brand ownership, top of mind recall, etc. it's Windows Server
2008 that enjoys the highest 'shift-in', i.e. 55% of other brand owners have
shifted to it. This shows that people want to move to the new release of OS, but
still Windows Server 2008 has to make much inroads to capture the same mind
share as Windows Server 2003 already enjoys.
Users' Choice Club 2010 |
Comparing to previous year, Windows Server 2000 has not made to the Club this time. |
Future Brand Preference Reasons |
Product reliability is the strongest reason that future buyers consider for these top 3 brands. |
When we asked respondents for reasons for ownership of their current brand,
product reliability and brand name are the chief reasons for Windows Server 2003
and 2008 owners. For future purchase, amongst the top three OSes, Red Hat had
the highest number of respondents and they cited product reliability as the
reason.
Brand Loyalty 2010 vs 2009 |
Win Server 2008 gained maximum brand loyalty over previous year, while RedHat Linux has lost some loyalists. |
Across all eight verticals, it is Windows Server 2003 that has the highest
presence, followed by Windows Server 2008, which has significant presence in
BFSI and IT/ITeS industries. In fact, these two verticals are witnessing the
maximum IT investments and so newer OSes are being adopted.
Coming to brand loyalty, a lot has changed over the past year. Windows Server
2008 has leap-frogged from 40% brand loyalty last year to enjoying the highest
brand loyalty this year, with 97% of current brand owners saying they will stick
to this brand in near future. RedHat Linux has lost a little brand loyalty over
last year. Windows 2003 Server has gained brand loyalty over last year by a
significant margin.
