Two much awaited games, "Marvel's Spider-Man 2" on the PlayStation 5 and "Super Mario Bros Wonder" for the Switch will launch later this week. The success of both games is very crucial to Nintendo and Sony, but it's vital to remember that the two games are quite different and target different groups. When was both games first releases?

In 1985, Shigeru Miyamoto created Mario, who revolutionized gaming in the movie "Super Mario Bros." The game featured a unique side-scrolling feature that allowed horizontal movement across evolving landscapes. Mario quickly became one of the most recognizable characters in gaming history, selling more than 420 million units in the "Super Mario" series alone, fueling Nintendo's success. Spider-Man first appeared in Marvel comics in the 1960s, but only became popular in video games when Insomniac developed the series for Sony in 2018.

According to the latest figures, the game has sold 33 million copies.  Nintendo and Sony have taken different approaches to their latest game releases. Nintendo went out of style with a 2D side scroller, the first since 2012. Under the leadership of franchise creators Takashi Tezuka, the development team introduced new effects such as "Wonderful Flower". This boost takes Mario to new surreal dimensions or transforms him into an elephant.

New features for upcoming Spider man and Super Mario Bros games

On the other hand, Sony spent a lot of money on the development of "Marvel's Spider-Man 2". The graphics of this game push the technical capabilities of the PlayStation 5 to the maximum. This game allows Peter Parker and Miles Morales to fight against Kraven, Hunter and other villains.

According to Hideki Yasuda of Toyo Securities, who believes the game will quickly become profitable, "Spider-Man 1 boosted PS4 sales, and Sony is betting big with this new installment."

However, Yasuda noted that pre-orders for "Mario Wonder" in Japan were weak, and players outside of Japan preferred 3D Mario. It's hard for Nintendo to appeal to them as much as they did with "Zelda," which was Nintendo's flagship earlier this year.  Nintendo and Sony are expanding their universe of characters beyond game consoles, capitalizing on the success of recent movies.

The recent Super Mario animated film was a huge success, and the sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was one of the highest-grossing films of the year. In terms of gameplay, Nintendo is targeting gamers aged 5-95 with a variety of playable characters from the Mushroom Kingdom, while Spider-Man is targeting action fans with a variety of characters to choose from.
