The first electric vehicle (EV) from Sony-Honda Mobility, a joint venture between Sony and Honda, will be unveiled on January 4 at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2023 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. In an effort to compete with Tesla, Sony and Honda, two of the largest Japanese industrial titans, teamed up earlier this year.

Sony-Honda Mobility (SHM) recently showed off an unidentified new vehicle that is said to be designed and manufactured by Honda. Sony, on the other hand, will be in charge of the assistance and entertainment stage, which is said to be linked to the company's most recent gaming console, the PlayStation 5.

Level 3 autonomous driving capabilities are anticipated to be supported on the new concept electric vehicle. Pre-orders for Sony-Honda Portability's impending electric vehicles are probably going to begin by the end of 2025, with conveyances booked to begin first in the US by the second half of 2026, followed by Japan in the last part of the year.

The JV's chairman and CEO is Yasuhide Mizuno, a senior executive at Honda; the president and chief operating officer is Izumi Kawanishi, an executive vice president at Sony.

SHM also stated in a statement that it aims to become a "Mobility Tech Company" focused on software by providing high-value products and services and establishing new customer relationships.

Whats the concept behind new SHM EV?

The company intends to implement Level 2+ driver assistance in even more situations, such as urban driving, and to develop Level 3 automated driving in limited circumstances. In addition, the business asserts that it intends to include hardware based on a high-performance system on a chip (SoC) with a total processing power of more than 800 tera operations per second (TOPS).

Additionally, the company intends to create a brand-new human-machine interface to enable personalized in-car experiences by connecting cloud services. SHM plans to present a flawless fusion of genuine and virtual universes and to deal with diversion and profound space through computerized developments, like the metaverse.

In addition, SHM intends to establish an open community for the development of new mobility entertainment for both customers and other stakeholders in the automotive sector.

The Vision-S Concept, which was later renamed the Vision-S, was shown earlier at CES 2020 by Sony. It was followed by Vision-S 02.
