Though Sony’s huge 13-inch Digital Paper tablet did not receive a warm welcome from users, looks like the electronics giant is making some amends by introducing much-needed upgrades to the device.

The DPT-RP1 replaces the DPTS1 and comes with new and improved features like better resolution, Bluetooth support and more storage onboard. Starting with the new display, which hosts E Ink’s Mobius display tech, has been upgraded from 1200×1600 to 1650×2200, that makes reading clearer (206 DPI). The increased resolution doesn’t seem to have affected the battery life, though, that the company claims can easily last for a month.

Both the touchscreen as well as the texture of the surface have improved. The touchscreen device also allows pen touch inputs and has 16GB of internal storage to store your documents. According to the company, the DPT- RP1 can store around 10,000 PDF documents. In terms of connectivity, the device features WiFi and Bluetooth 4.2.

With fresh paint on the hardware, the device is roughly of the same weight as its predecessor although, the design is much cleaner with thinner bezels, rendering it more stylish.

Priced at $700, the device will compete against the likes of convertible computers like the Surface series and upstart e-paper products like reMarkable.
