Though this is a 5.1 speaker system, it only supports two channels–stereo sound. Rated at 1000 Watts PMPO, these are meant to be connected as an amplified speaker set to computers, audio/video systems or portables like a Walkman.
Setting up the speakers is pretty simple. The subwoofer has knobs for volume, bass and treble, and a 3D sound switch. We checked them to find their frequency response and the listening experience. The tests generated musical notes spanning the audible frequency range (20Hz-20KHz). We also checked them with static frequency notes and even with noise (pink noise). The speakers had no problem in handling mid-range and higher frequencies and performed well for shrill sounds. However, at very low frequencies, the subwoofer could not accurately reproduce sounds up to 250 Hz. There was an audible clattering at 100 Hz, which could be because of loose speaker housing. At loud volumes, turning the bass to maximum caused a lot of distortion. Over the volume range, however, there was no sound distortion. The maximum volume though wasn’t very high.
Priced at Rs 2,800, they are expensive for the kind of performance they give.
