2011 should be referred to as the tablet year with various companies launching their versions for various budgets. Continuing the trend, HCL has launched its tablet- HCL Me. Weighing 391 grams, the tablet is comfortable to hold. It has a microSD slot, a mini HDMI port, mini USB 2.0 slot and 3.5 mm audio jack which are present on the right hand side just below the home button.

With a screen size of 7", the tablet comes with Andoid 2.3 with 512 MB DDR2 RAM and 1 GHz processor that give a decent performance along with its capacitive touch. For connectivity, it has Wi-Fi but no SIM slot for a 3G connection. It however supports a USB dongle for 3G. What surprised us is the absence of Android market for this tablet. Though Aakash tablet also does not have an Android market, tablets like Lenovo ThinkPad have their own market which have applications specific to their tablets. In addition they also have integrated Android markets. HCL Me app market has around 11,000 apps under different categories such as fun and games, entertainment, lifestyle etc. but yes it is nothing as compared to the vast Android market. If you want to install any application from Android market or outside it, you can install it through a .apk file.

The tablet has a battery capacity of 3500 mAh which can let you through the whole day. Also, it only has a 2.0 MP front camera but no rear camera. And since the camera is placed at the top right corner, you might need to adjust the tablet while doing a video chat.

Bottomline: The HCL Me tablet is decent on features and competitively priced as well.
