TCS Youth Survey 2010: India's Socially Connected Youth Powers Ahead

India's Youth is a group of confident, optimistic, career minded and socially connected individuals, according to the second annual The Web 2.0 Generation survey, conducted by Tata Consultancy Services. TCS polled over 10,000 school going children between the ages of 12-18 in 11 cities across India during 2009-10 to understand the emerging trends amongst this important group.

The survey shows that India's youth are more likely to have a mobile phone than not, seamlessly move from fixed to mobile Internet, are spending more time online than ever before and have embraced social networks in a uniquely Indian way.Educationally, the grass is greener mentality of studying abroad seems to have high but many school children considering the values of studying in India as well. And even at a relatively young age, India's school children are thinking about new skills and salaries when they consider future careers.

Ajoy Mukherjee, Vice President, Head, Global Human Resources said: Nearly half of India's total population is under the age of 20 and classified under the youth category creating a group of over 459 million — more than the whole of the American population. This sizeable generation is already shaping the country and will play an incredibly important role in the direction that the nation takes next.
